Forgive and Forget are two different words but they are usually always used together.
You may not have realised but these two words are always used one after the other. Whenever you make a mistake,
Arrey maaf kar de yaar (Please forgive me)
Chal na, ab bhul jaa sab kuch (Now please forget everything)
See, I proved my point there already!
There is an old saying - Forgive and Forget! But are you sure you always pertain to it? Well in retrospect I as an individual believe in this concept but it’s quite difficult to follow it ahead somehow.
If there is even one memory that can remind me of an incident that hurt me, that makes it difficult to forget. We do forgive the person related to it, but there is always that memory we cling on too.
Do you know the reason behind this? It is because we are told to learn from our mistakes and not repeat them again. We need to cling on to the memory of that one mistake so that we do not repeat it all over again. Our brain is so complex, yet it doesn’t distinguish over which situations could be forgotten. We ponder over stupid and petty fights we have with our loved ones or friends. Sometimes even the issue is not that huge but in our heads, we somehow overthink and spoil our mood.
But yes, once you try and calm your mind down you will surely realise that all the overthinking does no good but just affect you more than the other person. Forgive so that you can calm your mind and your nerves and forget so that it does not haunt you further.
Do not ever feel that if you forgive or give in to some it is counted as your defeat or weakness. Forgiving and forgetting is not your weakness, it is actually your STRENGTH, your VICTORY. The strength that allows you to rise up above any situation or person and take a step ahead to resolve yourself from hurt. You take one step towards absolving yourself towards a calmer mind, keeping all the nonsense in the past.
Forgiveness is a good thing, it is all about extending mercy to even those who you don’t deem fit enough for it. There are benefits of forgiving:
You are ready to calm your mind
Showcasing a positive attitude
Better self-esteem
Decrease depression and anxiety
